LeapVPN Privacy Policy
LeapVPN is committed to protecting your privacy. We do not and will never log:
- Linking LeapVPN accounts to real identities (such as purchase information)
- Connection logs (timestamps of connection of IP addresses from client to LeapVPN servers)
- Browsing history
- Traffic destination or metadata
- DNS queries
This privacy policy will help you understand what information LeapVPN collects, what we don’t collect, and how we collect, use, and store the information. We disassociate your payment information from your LeapVPN account to ensure your anonymity. We do not collect logs of your activity, including browsing history, traffic destination, data content, or DNS queries. We also do not store connection logs, meaning no logs of your IP address, the outgoing LeapVPN server IP address associated with the connection timestamp, or session duration. LeapVPN is technically unable to associate your LeapVPN account with your real identity or associate a specific IP address with a LeapVPN user.
Our guiding principle toward data collection is to gather only the minimal information required to operate a world-class service. Even if compelled, we cannot provide data that we do not have.
This privacy policy will outline how LeapVPN collects, uses, and stores information.
Information We Collect
LeapVPN collects four types of information:
1. Account Information (“Personal Information”)
This information is collected to administer your LeapVPN subscription. It includes your username, email address, and payment information, which you submit on our order page when you subscribe to the Services. We accept any email address without verification. All payment information, such as transaction ID and payment account, will be disassociated after account creation to prevent linkage to your real identity.
2. Aggregate Usage Statistics
LeapVPN collects minimal information about your usage to maintain excellent customer support and service quality. This includes overall data transfer statistics but does not include information about specific browsing history, traffic destinations, DNS queries, or IP connection logs.
3. Optional Anonymous App Diagnostics (Crash Reports)
With your consent, LeapVPN collects anonymized app diagnostics, including crash reports and usability diagnostics. These reports help improve service quality and cannot be tied to individual users.
4. Optional Issue Reports
Users can voluntarily submit issue reports to LeapVPN for troubleshooting. These reports include logs that are not anonymized, but users must manually choose to submit them.
How We Handle Personal Information
LeapVPN collects personal information you provide directly through the app. The specific information varies depending on your chosen payment method. However, all payment information, such as transaction ID and payment account, is disassociated from your LeapVPN account after creation. This ensures that LeapVPN accounts are not linked to real identities.
Some payment methods may redirect you to third-party processors. While LeapVPN cannot control their storage of information, third-party processors and LeapVPN cannot link your payment data to your LeapVPN account.
Usage Data and Connection Statistics
LeapVPN ensures that no browsing history, traffic destination, data content, IP addresses, or DNS queries are logged. As a result:
- We do not know which websites or services users access.
- We cannot associate users with specific LeapVPN servers or IP addresses at any time.
- For LeapVPN Free users, IP addresses may be collected to prevent abuse, but we cannot correlate server IP addresses to specific users.
If compelled by law enforcement, we cannot supply data that does not exist.
To maintain service quality, we collect the following minimal information:
- Device ID: A randomly generated identifier that is stored on your device and used for diagnostics. It is not tied to hardware identifiers like MAC addresses or IMEI.
- App Versions: We collect information on the apps and versions you are using to assist in troubleshooting.
- Language and Locale Settings: We collect information on your system language to customize the LeapVPN interface.
- Aggregate Data Transferred: We collect the total sum of data transferred by each device to monitor service usage and maintain performance for all users.
Anonymous Diagnostics and Crash Reports (Optional)
With your permission, LeapVPN collects anonymized crash reports, usability diagnostics, and connection diagnostics to improve network speeds and resolve issues. This data is fully anonymized and cannot be traced back to individual users. You can start or stop sharing these diagnostics at any time through the app settings.
Jurisdiction and Data Protection
LeapVPN is based in United States, where there are no data retention laws. Legal requests for user data must come through the appropriate local legal system. However, LeapVPN is technically unable to associate user accounts or server IP addresses with real identities or specific users.
